DRUC RECEIVES PERFECT INSPECTION SCORE OF 100 OUT OF 100
The Duck River Utility Commission facilities were subject to a surprise inspection by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Supply on August 30, 2007 resulting in a perfect score of 100 out of 100. The three State inspectors spent the day evaluating the DRUC water filtration plant and other facilities including all buildings, equipment, maintenance records, plant operating procedures, laboratory analysis and water quality records.
The Commission congratulates the staff on yet another confirmation of the high quality water produced for the customer of the DRUC. The DRUC has earned a rating of 99 or a perfect 100 on every State inspection since 1988, including a string of four consecutive perfect 100 scores. The Commission's average inspection score over the last twenty years has been a phenomenal 99.8 out of 100.
The DRUC is a public water authority created in 1976 to supply drinking water to the cities of Manchester and Tullahoma. The Commission serves a population of approximately 51,000 through the water systems in Manchester, Tullahoma and the surrounding communities. The DRUC provides two billion gallons of purified drinking water each year to its customer utilities at a cost of $1.10 per 1000 gallons.
DRUC RECEIVES ANOTHER AWARD FOR OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
The Duck River Utility Commission is pleased to announce that the DRUC has been awarded the AWWA Award of Excellence for 2006 by the American Water Works Association. This award honors the top water treatment plants in
Tennessee and
Kentucky for excellence in operation and maintenance including providing pure drinking water that meets all USEPA and State regulations. The Commission received the award in the 5 – 10 million gallons per day water system category as the winner for the entire two state section. The Commission congratulates the DRUC staff on winning such a prestigious award and appreciates their hard work and dedication in supplying pure and plentiful water to the communities of
Manchester and
Tullahoma.
DRUC RECEIVES NEAR PERFECT INSPECTION SCORE OF 99 OUT OF 100
The Duck River Utility Commission facilities were subject to a detailed inspection by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Supply on September 13th and September 23, 2005 resulting in a near perfect score of 99 out of 100. The two State inspectors spent two days evaluating the DRUC water filtration plant and other facilities including all buildings, equipment, maintenance records, plant operating procedures and water quality records. The one point deduction was taken for a minor records maintenance item NOT related to water quality.
The DRUC has earned a rating of 99 or a perfect 100 on every State inspection since 1988, including a string of four consecutive perfect 100 scores.

DRUC DEDICATION, OPEN HOUSE AND FACILITY TOUR - SEPTEMBER 18, 2004
The Duck River Utility Commission is pleased to invite the public to visit the DRUC facilities and celebrate the dedication of the upgraded and expanded water treatment plant. The DRUC facilities, located at 270 Water Lane outside of Tullahoma, Tennessee, will be open to public tours from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 18, 2004. DRUC personnel will be available to provide information on the new membrane ultra-filtration system and other new plant equipment. Refreshments including a barbeque lunch will be served. DRUC MANAGER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FROM TSPE
The Duck River Utility Commission is pleased to announce that DRUC General Manager Randal J. Braker received the prestigious Professional Engineer in Government Award from the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers on July 23, 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee. The TSPE presented Braker with the award at the society's annual conference for his engineering achievements and professionalism. The Commission congratulates Mr. Braker on winning such a prestigious award and appreciates his dedication to supplying safe and plentiful drinking water to the Manchester and Tullahoma area.
CONSTRUCTION OF NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART TREATMENT PLANT NEARING COMPLETION
Construction of the Duck River Utility Commission's new membrane filtration plant is approximately 95% complete and is expected to begin purifying water in September 2004. The state-of-the-art new membrane ultra-filtration process removes particles from the water larger than 0.015 um including bacteria and viruses. In addition, the new process includes advanced oxidation with chlorine dioxide and adsorption with granular activated carbon contactors. The new treatment plant will be capable of producing 10 million gallons per day of ultra-pure water immediately and is easily expandable to up to more than 15 million gallons per day.

The two State inspectors spent two days evaluating the DRUC water filtration plant and other facilities including all buildings, equipment, maintenance records, plant operating procedures and water quality records. The one point deduction was taken for a minor maintenance item NOT related to water quality.
The DRUC has earned a rating of 99 or 100 on every State inspection since 1988, including a string of four consecutive perfect scores. The State inspectors scored the DRUC at 100 in prior surprise inspections in 2001, 1998, 1996 and 1994.

The Commission is currently in the fourth year of a five year program which, when completed, will double the treatment capacity of the water plant to fifteen million gallons per day. The DRUC is installing a new membrane ultra filtration system and new activated carbon contactors at the treatment plant on Normandy Reservoir. This new system promises a significant leap forward in drinking water purification, providing greater filter efficiency than achievable with equipment available just ten year ago. Ultra-filtration represents a great benefit to the public in purity, safety and reliability for the water supply they rely on every day throughout the year.

DRUC MANAGER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FROM AWWA
The Duck River Utility Commission is pleased to announce that DRUC General Manager Randal J. Braker received the prestigious George Warren Fuller Award from the American Water Works Association on June 18, 2003 in Anaheim, California. The George Warren Fuller Award is presented by the AWWA to the selected recipient for distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of the sound engineering skill, the brilliant diplomatic talent, and the constructive leadership which characterized the life of George Warren Fuller. The Commission congratulates Mr. Braker on winning such a prestigious national award and appreciates his dedication to supplying safe and plentiful drinking water to the Manchester and Tullahoma area.
DRUC WINS NATIONAL DRINKING WATER EXCELLENCE AWARD
The Duck River Utility Commission is pleased to announce that the DRUC has been awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Drinking Water Excellence Award. This national award honors the top water utilities in the country for excellence in operation and maintenance including providing pure drinking water that meets all USEPA and State regulations. The Commission received the award in the large surface water system category as the winner from EPA Region 4 which covers the entire southeast. The Commission congratulates the DRUC staff on winning such a prestigious national award and appreciates their hard work and dedication in supplying safe drinking water to the Manchester and Tullahoma area.
DRUC RECEIVES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE PERFECT INSPECTION SCORE
The Duck River Utility Commission facilities were subject to a detailed inspection by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Supply on August 2, 2001 resulting in a perfect score of 100%. The two State inspectors spent several hours evaluating the DRUC water filtration plant and other facilities including all buildings, equipment, maintenance records, plant operating procedures and water quality records.
The DRUC has earned a perfect rating of 100% on every State inspection since 1993, this being the fourth consecutive perfect score awarded to the Commission. The State inspectors also scored the DRUC at 100% in prior surprise inspections in 1998, 1996 and 1994.
The two previous inspections of the DRUC facilities by the TDEC Division of Water Supply in 1993 and 1991 resulted in excellent ratings of 99%. In both cases, a one point deduction was taken for a minor item NOT related to water quality.
